![]() ![]() I only bought these bikes to play around for a year and figure out what we really want, so I'll be selling them eventually. This stamp simply states the month and year that the engine was manufactured. On these engines a separate stamp with the MFG Date is located on the transom bracket. Does anyone know how to use this engine number to determine a manufacture date or some other information which would support that this is not the original motor? Any advice would be appreciated!!!!!!! I really need to figure out how to do this. Yamaha changed the way they identify the manufacture year of their engines starting in 2005. This sort of begs the question of why they bother to put a serial number on the engine, but that's a topic for another day. They couldn't even tell me the original engine number for the bike. They said there was no way to get a manufacture date from that, so I went to plan B and called customer support at Yamaha who said the same thing. So, I got the Engine Serial Number off the crankcase of the 1100 and took it to the local Yamaha dealer. The price was reasonable, given that both bikes checked out within a few PSI of 140 on all cylinders and were in terrific shape otherwise. The seller told me that he put a new motor into the 1100, but had no documentation to support that. I've rented waverunners/jetskis before, but now I own a couple of '96 Yamaha Wave Ventures - one 700 and one 1100. ![]()
